ABS-CBN superstar Vice Ganda shares a strong statement about paying taxes amid alleged massive corruption in flood control projects.
From enduring storms that bring floods and destruction, people are now also being overwhelmed by a storm of corruption in flood control projects. Billions have been allocated to these initiatives, yet much of the money was not used to protect communities from the rising waters.
The newly established Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) will investigate alleged irregularities in flood control projects, vowing not to spare anyone involved. Amid the probe, the loud buzz, and the protests regarding this widespread corruption, Vice Ganda joins the call for accountability and justice by lending her voice and influence.
In the latest episode of their noontime show, It’s Showtime, Vice heard the sentiments of contestant who was saddened over the stolen tax payment. For the ordinary Filipino, paying taxes is an added burden that impacts the entire household budget. With recent events, it is disheartening to learn that these hard-earned contributions have merely lined the pockets of corrupt officials and politicians.
These corrupt officials and politicians live in comfort, but the poor people remain poor, and sadly, some situations become even worse.
Commenting on how every service is taxed, the comedian remarked that if it were up to him, taxes should be suspended while the country grapples with multi-billion corruption scandals.
She added, “Hindi pwedeng ninakaw niyo yung tax namin tapos magbabayad pa di kami. Ibalik niyo muna yung ninakaws niyo sa’min, di ba?”
Vice believe’s there should be “tax holiday,” since those who are trusted and in public service are only stealing the money meant to improve the country and the lives of the people. She quipped, “Ninanakaw niyo pera namin eh! Wag niyo muna kaming pagbayarin hangga’t hindi naaayos.”
