In the past weeks, people online have found online as an easy access to target the children of contractors and politicians after President Bongbong Marcos ordered an investigation into flood control projects. The lavish lifestyles of contractors’ and politicians’ kids have easily become the subject of criticisms online, with most users thinking how shameless they are for displaying such grandeur in their lives.
In the past week, social media pages and online groups have surfaced, reposting and compiling clips and posts of certain individuals showcasing their extravagant lifestyles—from flying on private jets and indulging in costly shopping trips overseas to acquiring luxury cars.
To recall, President Marcos Jr. has revealed earlier that PHP 545 billion was allocated and spent on flood management since 2022, amounting to 9,855 flood control projects to date. However, the situation in the country remained unchanged as flooding remains a big problem for a lot of people across the country just after a night’s rain.
Even to some, it only took a couple of hours of rain to submerge the area.
While the probe is still ongoing, these children of politicians and contractors, called “nepo babies,” have shied away online. The critical comments and sarcastic posts, however, continued despite them being offline.
Among them was Claudine Co, the daughter of Christopher Co, the co-founder of Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corp., while her uncle, Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, is the CEO of the Sunwest Group of Companies. Her sisters Bianca and Heart also remained inactive on social media.
Siblings Gela Marasigan and Angelo Luis Marasigan are also offline still. To recall, their lifestyle posts went viral online, and netizens were quick to comment on their posts after the alleged corruption erupted.
This is the same with content creator and lifestyle vlogger Jammy Cruz. She is also inactive on social media. The Enciso sisters, Vern and Verniece, were also silent online. This was after several people questioned their wealth, as seen in their luxury purchases.
