Remulla Assures Public That Protests Will Remain Peaceful

Remulla Says Protests Against PH Corruption Will Remain Peaceful

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla assured the public that any upcoming protests against corruption will remain peaceful.

The official said that the protests particularly those linked to flood control projects, are unlikely to turn violent. He said that Filipinos generally seek accountability without resorting to chaos, unlike the unrest seen in countries such as Indonesia and Nepal.

On Thursday (September 11, 2025), Remulla shared that a command conference had already been held to prepare for possible demonstrations. He emphasized that contingency plans are in place and that authorities will exercise maximum tolerance to maintain peace and order.

Remulla noted that people have the right to express their grievances and that the government will not suppress lawful gatherings. According to him, protests are an important outlet for public frustrations and stopping them could only make tensions worse.

“Ang mga Pilipino naman hindi ganiyan. Even at worst, di tayo nanununog… Sa tingin ko, di tayo aabot,” he said.

He reminded law enforcement officers to be present, patient, and respectful of the sentiments of the protesters. His directive to the police focused on ensuring that protests remain peaceful while still safeguarding public safety.

Remulla explained that most Filipinos want justice and accountability but not instability. The goal, he said, is to let people air their concerns without allowing the situation to spiral into conflict.

People want accountability but not instability. So we will prevent the instability. Nasa maximum tolerance kami. We understand that people have grievances and it is nothing to take advantage of kung mayro’n silang mga permit, freedom to assemble,” he added,

His statement comes at a time when public frustration is growing over allegations of corruption in several government projects, including those aimed at flood control. Social media has been flooded with calls for transparency and accountability, leading some to worry about possible unrest.

He is hoping to keep protests calm and constructive while addressing the concerns of those demanding action.
