MARTIN ROMUALDEZ – The House Speaker denied the claim of the Discayas that he allegedly received kickbacks from flood control projects.

The flood control mess in the Philippines has left President Bongbong Marcos and countless Filipinos greatly disappointed. Previously, Marcos Jr. stressed that over P500-billion already were spent for the flood control projects. However, there are still a lot of flood-prone areas in the country.

In Bulacan, Marcos Jr. found an over P55-million ‘ghost’ Riverwall project which was marked completed and already paid in full. He also called out the contractor of the incomplete and substandard flood control structure in the same province. The contractor was the St. Timothy Construction which was one of the 15 contractors he flagged for receiving around P100 billion from the country’s total flood control spending.

The Discayas undeniably hooked the spotlight. Their past interviews wherein they flaunted their lavish lifestyle resurfaced on social media amid the flood control mess in the country. During the recent hearing, the Discaya patriarch named names.

Curlee Discaya mentioned the names of several congressmen and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for allegedly receiving kickbacks from them. He is also mentioned House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co for the same accusation.

Immediately after the claim of the Discayas, House Speaker Martin Romualdez issued a statement denying the claim of the controversial contractors. According to the House Speaker, he does not need to corrupt money that do not belong to him.

“I am self-made, and I have been blessed with the trust of the Filipino people. I do not need—and will never allow myself—to be corrupted by money that does not belong to me,” saad ni Romualdez,” he expressed.

Based on the post of News5 on social media, House Speaker Martin Romualdez also called for accountability from the people who use his name for their own benefits. He called on his fellow lawmakers not to allow someone to damage their reputation.

“If anyone abuses or uses my name for profit, they should be held accountable—no matter who they are, inside or outside of government. But let us not allow lies and name-dropping to destroy reputations or weak faith in Congress,” the House Speaker said.

Aside from the House Speaker, the Discayas also linked Quezon City Representative Arjo Atayde in the issue of flood control projects in the country.
