Senator Chiz Escudero is replaced by Senator Tito Sotto in the Senate presidency.
Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has taken over as Senate President after Senator Chiz Escudero was ousted.
Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III on Monday reclaimed the Senate Presidency, taking the position from Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero. Meanwhile, Senator Ping Lacson is elected Senate president pro tempore, replacing Jinggoy Estrada, and Senator Migz Zubiri will replace majority leader Joel Villanueva.

The change happened over a month after Escudero’s reelection as Senate President. This occurred while the probe into the anomalous flood control projects is still ongoing, which unraveled his campaign’s top donor involvement.
According to reports, there were 15 senators who supported this, and based on Sotto’s statement, he talked to Escudero already, and the younger senator already agreed to step down.
The 15 senators who reportedly supported the leadership change are:
- Tito Sotto
- Bam Aquino
- Pia Cayetano
- JV Ejercito
- Win Gatchalian
- Risa Hontiveros
- Ping Lacson
- Lito Lapid
- Loren Legarda
- Kiko Pangilinan
- Raffy Tulfo
- Erwin Tulfo
- Mark Villar
- Camille Villar
- Migz Zubiri
With no objection and no other nominees, Sotto was declared Senate chief.
“As Senate president, he always led with fairness and transparency, and he led with an open ear and decisive hand, ensuring unity and stability in the Senate at all times. Most importantly, he was a traditionalist in the very best sense of the word, consistently upholding the rules and traditions that protected the Senate as the nation’s last bastion of democracy,” Zubiri said.
Zubiri expressed that with Sotto’s leadership, the Senate is in good hands, which was seconded by Senator Loren Legarda. Escudero and Sotto shook hands after the election. It was Escudero himself who administered the oath to the newly installed Senate President.
