Social media influencer and actor Awra Briguela shares plans to undergo gender reassignment surgery in the future.
Gender reassignment surgery or also known as gender-affirming surgery (GAS) or gender confirmation surgery (GCS), is a medical procedure performed to alter an individual’s physical body so that it matches their gender identity.
In the Philippines, several have already done the surgery, and among those who already have plans to do this is Awra Briguela. She is a member of the community, and during an interview with content creator Killa Kush on her podcast, she shared that she has plans to undergo the said surgery as part of her transition from gay to being a transgender woman.
According to her, the perspective changed after she realized she wanted to be treated like a woman. Awra used to be content with being identified as gay and didn’t have plans to undergo a transition, but life happened. It made her decide on what she truly wants.
“Pero, nung nasabi ko na gusto kong mag trans, gusto kong itrato akong babae, gusto ko yung tingin sa akin babae,” she said.
With this realization comes her desire to have gender reassignment, but in the future. For now, she puts this plan aside as she is still too young. She then opened up about how she wanted to keep the muscles she had built for years. It has become a part of her personality, and she finds it hard to accept dissolving them.
“Kasi guys, hirap pa ako mag decision ngayon kasi nga yung muscle ko hindi ako makapag decision kung papatunaw ko pa kasi love ko talaga siya. Parang it makes me so unique kaya hindi ko siya mapatanggal tanggal,” she expressed.
Meanwhile, for now, her focus is on her education. Her career in the show business industry was put on the backseat for her to focus on this one. For college, she is torn whether to choose Mass Communications or Multimedia Arts.
