Kiko Pangilinan Blasts TV Network for Dragging Sharon Cuneta Into Flood Probe

Kiko Pangilinan Defends Sharon Cuneta: Senator Slams Net25 for Involving Wife in Senate Issue

KIKO PANGILINAN – Senator Kiko Pangilinan has demanded a public apology from Net25 after his wife, megastar Sharon Cuneta, was dragged into a political issue she had no connection with.

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan has strongly urged a television network to apologize publicly to his wife, actress Sharon Cuneta, after she was needlessly mentioned in a controversy surrounding flood-control projects. Pangilinan emphasized that Cuneta has no involvement whatsoever in the issue and should not have been brought into the discussion.

The demand came after Net25 anchors, during their interview with Senator Dante Marcoleta, called on Cuneta to convince her husband to step down from the Senate blue ribbon committee. Their remarks were based on Pangilinan’s expression of support for an independent investigation into the matter—an initiative that Marcoleta himself was pursuing.

However, Pangilinan clarified that the proposal did not come from him but from Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III. His role was limited to backing the call for an Independent People’s Commission to conduct a fair probe.

In a Facebook statement, Pangilinan condemned the way Cuneta was dragged into the matter. “Is it right that in criticizing me, your anchors Nelson Lubao and Gen Subardiaga dragged my wife Sharon into the issue, when she has nothing to do with the corruption in flood control?” he asked.

The senator further noted that Cuneta was not only brought into the controversy but also ridiculed on air. “This program disrespected Sharon and hurt her feelings, even though she has remained silent and has nothing to do with the corruption issue. Is this to stir discussion and increase your viewership?” he added.

Pangilinan then demanded accountability from the network, insisting that they correct their actions through a public apology. “Your anchors disrespected Sharon, insulted her, and wounded her feelings by dragging her into this issue. She deserves a public apology from Net25 and your anchorpersons,” he declared.

He also reminded media practitioners to practice fairness and avoid drawing uninvolved individuals into political disputes. “Do not drag innocent people into the issue or disrespect, especially the wives of senators who have nothing to do with Senate matters,” Pangilinan stressed.

The controversy has since sparked debates online about responsible journalism and respect for public figures outside political affairs.
