Collapsed Roof at Peñaranda Park to Be Replaced w/ Permanent Structure
A contractor has promised to replace the stage’s retractable roof at Peñaranda Park in Legazpi City after it collapsed during heavy rain.
Last August 30, 2025 (Saturday), a tragic incident at Peñaranda Park in Legazpi City left several students injured after part of the stage’s retractable roof collapsed during heavy rain. About 40 students from Bicol College were rehearsing at the park when the incident happened.
Police said the continuous downpour from late afternoon caused water to collect on the roof, which eventually cracked and gave way. Six students were hurt, with one still complaining of severe headaches.
Parents rushed to the park afterward to collect their children’s belongings, saying the young performers were still shaken by the ordeal.
FS Co Builders and Supply, the contractor of the project, quickly responded to the incident. The company said they immediately assisted the injured students and covered all hospital and medical expenses.
The company remain in close contact with the victims and their families to support their recovery.
The contractor clarified that the roofing structure was still awaiting its final inspection by the Provincial Engineer’s Office and the implementing agency, which was delayed due to the availability of personnel.
On Sunday (August 31, 2026), the company met with local officials, the Provincial Engineer’s Office, DPWH 2nd District and Regional Offices, and the Philippine National Police to discuss next steps.
During the meeting, they agreed to replace the retractable roofing with a permanent structure to avoid similar accidents in the future.
FS Co Builders also committed to strengthening its safety protocols and coordinating closely with authorities to ensure construction standards are improved.
The stage is part of a newly developed park facility, and officials assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse and to prevent any future incidents.
