Acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte Asked about OIC PNP Chief PLtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
BASTE DUTERTE – The acting Davao City Mayor expressed his belief that the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) allegedly has the order to target their family and their supporters.
In several occasions most especially during the 2025 Midterm Elections campaign, the Duterte siblings have thrown tirades against the arrester of their father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Then-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Nicolas Torre III was the lead implementer in the transfer of the custody of the former President.

Then-Davao Mayor Baste Duterte even criticized the appointment of Nicolas Torre III as PNP chief by Pres. Bongbong Marcos. According to him, Torre’s promotion is allegedly not based on merits but on favor.
Torre and Duterte were also on several headlines after the then-PNP chief accepted the “challenge” the acting Davao Mayor and set a “charity boxing match”. The issue stemmed from Duterte’s claim that he can take down Torre on a fistfight.

Then-PNP chief Nicolas Torre really prepared for his “charity boxing match” against acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte. The boxing ring was set in Rizal Memorial Coliseum. According to him, he saw the “challenge” of the Davao Mayor as an opportunity to raise funds to help the victims of typhoon and flooding in the Philippines.
However, Duterte also laid down his own conditions. He wanted Pres. Bongbong Marcos to order a mandatory drug testing among all government officials for the charity boxing match to push through. He was in Singapore during the scheduled “charity boxing match”.

Then-PNP chief Nicolas Torre III was announced as “winner by default” in the boxing match after acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte did not arrive. The event reportedly gathered millions of funds and relief goods for the typhoon and flood victims.

Recently, countless Filipinos were shocked when Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered Nicolas Torre III to be relieved as PNP chief. According to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, the move was allegedly simply a decision of the President to take the PNP to a different direction.
Immediately, Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. took the PNP command. Based on a post of ABS-CBN News, during an interview in The Hague, acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte was asked about the new OIC of the PNP.

According to acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte, he really does not know Nartatez. However, he claimed that if there will be someone who will replace Nicolas Torre III as the PNP chief, the next PNP chief allegedly surely has the order to target them.
“Hindi ko talaga alam. Hindi ko alam. I do not know these people. Pero, but, for sure, kung may papalit man na chief PNP diyan, may order talaga ‘yan na punteryahin tayo,” Duterte said.
Furthermore, during the interview, acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte also claimed that one cannot allegedly be the PNP chief without doing something against the Duterte family or supporters.
“‘Yan naman lagi eh. Hindi ka naman maging chief PNP kapag wala kang gagawing katarantaduhan against sa aming mga Duterte o sa mga supporters natin,” the acting Davao Mayor said.
Acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte also expressed his belief that Nicolas Torre III is allegedly really “demoted” following his relief as PNP chief. He also believes that there might be an “internal conflict”.
