Statement of PNP Chief Nicolas Torre To Cops after Leptospirosis Death

PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III reminded his men in the police force to “don’t ever forget our humanity” amid the implementation of the laws.

Under his lead, Philippine National Police Chief Police General Nicolas Torre vowed that the police will be trustworthy under his lead. Pres. Bongbong Marcos previously issued a challenge to him to keep the police ranks clean.

On his first month in service as the head of the PNP, Torre widened the implementation of his call for a swift response to crimes and the needs of the people. He also made a move against bullying in schools amid the opening of classes in the country.

PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III announced that bullying in schools may now be reported to the 911 hotline so the authorities can coordinate with the school officials. He also issued a directive to overweight cops to lose their excess pounds.

According to PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III, overweight cops must lose weight or ‘face separation from service’ unless they have health conditions that would prohibit them or make it hard for them to lose their extra pounds. Recently, the head of the national police also aired his stand following the death of a leptospirosis victim.

It was previously reported that a college student died of leptospirosis after he was through the floodwaters to visit his father, Jayson Dela Rosa, who was arrested and detained by the police authorities last July 22.

Based on a report on Inquirer, Jayson Dela Rosa was arrested for alleged shoplifting last July 22 amid the wrath of the Southwest monsoon in several areas in the country. He was detained at the Caloocan City Police Station 2 until he faced gambling charges three (3) days after.

To be able to visit his detained father, Dela Rosa’s son wade through the floodwaters. Several days after the said visit, the college student died of leptospirosis. The elder Dela Rosa has filed a case before the National Police Commission (Napolcom) over his detention.

Recently, in his message to the cops, PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III reminded his men in the police field that both the brain and the heart must work together. He stressed that “it’s not only the brain that should work but the heart” in enforcing the law.

Furthermore, based on the report, the PNP Chief also stressed to the cops that more than the implementation of the law, the police should not forget about humanity.

“My guidance for our people, more than anything else, more than the strict implementation of the law, don’t ever forget our humanity,” the head of the PNP said.

Previously, PNP Chief Nicolas Torre sparked headlines after her accepted the “challenge” of acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte to a “charity boxing match”.
