NINOY AQUINO DAY 2025 – Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. is remembered on his death anniversary on Thursday, August 21.
This year, the country commemorates the 42nd death anniversary of the late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. He is a democracy icon, and on Thursday, August 21, his family and allies marked this day with a Holy Mass as they looked back at his legacy of bringing hope to Filipinos.
In a previous article, President Bongbong Marcos issued a statement highlighting this day as “an invitation to govern with sobriety, conscience, and foresight” and called to “transcend political barriers.”
“Through this observance, we advance the work of statecraft: disciplined, steady, and shaped by the enduring imperative to choose peace above quarrel and dignity beyond differences,” his statement read.
Among those who paid tribute to the icon were Senators Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros, and Kiko Pangilinan.
The hero’s nephew, Senator Bam, called the people to unite and to continue pursuing his vision of good governance, as the country is being hounded by corruption controversy and allegations. He cited the Senate Blue Ribbon’s probe into anomalous billion-peso flood control projects.
As for Senator Kiko, Aquino’s death led to his political awakening. He was only 20 years old when the shooting happened at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), which ultimately led to Aquino’s death.
“Matagal na rin yun. Pero narito tayo sa larangan ng pulitika at isinasabuhay ang isa sa maraming aral ng buhay ni Ninoy: Kung mahal mo ang bayang Pilipinas, ipaglalaban mo. Ipaglalaban mo ang dignidad ng pinakaaba. ‘Ika nga: Ang mangingibig, makabayan, palaban,’” he said.
In a Facebook post, Senator Risa spoke well about Ninoy’s sacrifice to achieve his dream for the country, which cost him his life.
The death happened 42 years ago, but what he did will always be remembered – never forgotten.
