Statement of Pres. Bongbong Marcos on Ninoy Aquino Day Celebration
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President released a statement as the Philippines commemorate the Ninoy Aquino Day today.
Today is a special non-working holiday in the Philippines for the Ninoy Aquino Day. The Filipinos commemorate the Ninoy Aquino Day, the historic assassination of the late former Senator who was an image of democracy in the country’s history.

Even before the late former Sen. Ninoy Aquino was able to set foot on Philippine grounds again after years in abroad last August 21, 1983, the former Senator was shot which led to his immediate death.
The death of Ninoy Aquino was followed by the ouster of then dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and the election of the first woman president of the Republic of the Philippines, Ninoy’s wife, the late former Pres. Corazon ‘Cory” Aquino.

The Marcos family exiled in Hawaii. It was only after the death of the late former Dictator Marcos Sr. that the rest of the family members were allowed to return to the Philippines. In the previous Ninoy Aquino Day celebration, PBBM called on the Filipinos to “transcend political barriers”. For this year’s celebration, Pres. Bongbong Marcos released a statement saying that the event is “an invitation to govern with sobriety, conscience, and foresight”.

According to Marcos Jr., the passage of time has enabled the Filipinos to approach the Ninoy Aquino Day with “greater clarity” and the Filipinos now have a “deeper perspective” of the event. The President also said that the history now is an invitation to “reflection more than reaction” and it is through it where we can get a clearer understanding of our civic duties as Filipinos.
“These transitions unfolded in moments when individuals chose to meet history with resolve. As someone raised within a political tradition formed by these moments, I have come to understand that history offers less final judgment than continuing instruction,” the President wrote.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos further stated that our commemoration of the Ninoy Aquino Day fulfills the purpose when the lessons of the past are evident in what we do in the present and in the moral architecture of our institutions. According to the Chief Executive, the country is ready to uphold a leadership that strives towards “wholeness and reconciliation”.
“Through this observance, we advance the work of statecraft: disciplined, steady, and shaped by the enduring imperative to choose peace above quarrel and dignity beyond differences,” he said.
Based on a post of ABS-CBN News, Pres. Bongbong Marcos wished all the Filipinos a solemn and meaningful remembrance of the Ninoy Aquino Day. Here’s the message of the Chief Executive:

Previously, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte earned criticisms after likening himself to the fate of the late former Sen. Ninoy Aquino.
