Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Claims PH Education Allegedly Stuck in “Paper and Pencil”
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President was called allegedly the ‘worst DepEd Secretary ever’ by a lawmaker after her criticisms against the PH education.
Following her victory in the 2022 Elections, Vice Pres. Duterte was appointed by her running mate, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, as the secretary of the Department of Education. She served as the DepEd Chief from 2022 to mid 2024.
Amid the souring relationship between her and the President then, Vice Pres. Duterte resigned from being the DepEd secretary. She also left the Cabinet of Marcos Jr. citing both personal and work reasons.
Currently, the Vice President is surrounded by a lot of issues — her impeachment, her frequent travels abroad, and the controversy over her alleged misused of Confidential Funds. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s office confirmed his Kuwait travel and stressed that she’s not using public funds in all her abroad trips. The OVP stressed that the Kuwait trip of the Vice President is authorized and part of her mandate.
At the Hakbang ng Maisug event in Kuwait wherein she gave a speech, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte compared the PH education with those abroad. According to her, the country allegedly finds it hard to keep up with the modernization.
Vice Pres. Duterte also claimed that the Philippines’ education is stuck in “paper and pencil” while in other countries, the students are already learning about robotics and coding. Furthermore, she also claimed that kids as young as three (3) years old in other countries already know how to read while in the Philippines, there are high school students who still do not know how to read.
Following the “paper and pencil” remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte who has served in the education department, ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio slammed the Vice President and called her allegedly the ‘worst DepEd secretary ever’.
“Vice President Duterte has the audacity to criticize the education system when she herself is the worst DepEd secretary ever,” Tinio said.
Based on a report on Inquirer, the ACT Teachers Party-list claimed that Vice Pres. Duterte allegedly failed to deliver even a tiny part of what was expected of her during her term as the DepEd secretary. She asked how the Vice President can complain about the students’ lack of access to modern technology when she allegedly wasn’t able to ensure that the students have textbooks and learning materials.
“She paid more attention to the confidential funds of DepEd instead of addressing the learning crisis. You are definitely the worst DepEd secretary ever,” the lawmaker said.
From her travel to Kuwait, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte made a stop to Paris, France to meet her family’s supporters. Previously, she claimed that the Filipino communities abroad are allegedly “frustrated” already over what is happening in the Philippines, thus, she visits them.
