Earthquake in Batangas Captured on Camera in Several Towns & Nearby Areas
The magnitude 5.1 earthquake in Batangas was captured on camera in several towns and nearby areas in the province.
On early Wednesday morning (August 20, 2025), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude 5.1 earthquake in Batangas. For many, it was a frightening experience that left them wide awake for the rest of the night.
One of them was 48-year-old Tess Atajar from Barangay Caybunga in Balayan. She recalled how the strong shaking startled her while she was asleep. It was her first time experiencing such an intense quake, and the fear of it happening again kept her from going back to sleep.
When she went to the kitchen, she found broken dishes scattered on the floor after the shelf had collapsed.
The quake was also captured on CCTV cameras in some homes and establishments in Balayan. In one garage, the ground shaking was clearly visible, while in another home, living room items were seen moving as the quake struck.
A woman in Balayan was also shook awake, while employees of a convenience store in Barangay Sambat rushed outside for safety.
Even in Manila, the tremor was felt. A resident shared a video showing their ceiling light swaying on the 26th floor of a high-rise building.
Despite the powerful tremor, the Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that no injuries or major damage to buildings had been recorded as of 7:00 a.m. The quake’s epicenter was traced to Calaca, Batangas.
However, the residents expressed relief that no lives were lost and no severe destruction was reported. Authorities continue to remind the public to remain alert, as aftershocks are possible after an earthquake.
The incident reminds Batangueños to stay prepared for natural disasters that can strike without warning.
