Small Vendor Loses Goods to Thief After Falling Asleep on Rolling Cart

A small vendor in Tondo, Manila fell asleep on her rolling cart and woke up to find her goods stolen.

On Sunday morning (August 17, 2025), the victim, Rosemarie Saguion, had just come from the market, carrying her items in a sack bag. Tired from the early trip, she decided to rest for a while in Barangay 49. Sadly, this gave the suspect a chance to strike.

CCTV footage showed the man watching her closely before making his move. Once Rosemarie had dozed off, he grabbed the sack containing her merchandise and casually walked away. After a few moments, she woke up in shock upon realizing that her goods were gone.

The stolen items were worth about P6,500. What made it even more painful for Rosemarie was that the money used to buy them was borrowed. She pays it back little by little each day, and those goods were meant to support her seven children.

“Kakautang ko lang po, inutang ko lang po ‘yun sa kapitbahay ko. Hinuhulog hulugan ko po araw-araw ng P100. Pag wala po akong pang hulog, naunawaan naman po niya,” Rosemarie said.

For her, it was not just merchandise, it was food on the table and her children’s allowance for school.

When the barangay council learned of her situation, they decided to help. The officials pooled money from their own funds to replace what was lost, showing kindness and solidarity in the community.

Barangay Captain Ariel Dionisio also assured that they would strengthen coordination with the police and increase patrols to prevent similar incidents. The suspect, believed to be an outsider in the area, is now being hunted down by authorities.

“Nag-usap kami ng council total nalalapit na ‘yung quarterly na sahod namin, ambag-ambag kami para mapunuan ‘yung mga nawala sa kanya,” said Dionisio.
