Graduating Student Rushed to Hospital After Car Crashes Into Tree in Caloocan
A male student sustained injuries after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Caloocan City, just a day before his graduation.
Last Saturday (August 16, 2025). a 25-year-old student was rushed to the hospital after the car he was driving crashed into a tree along Congressional Road in Barangay 173, Caloocan City.
According to the barangay rescue team that first responded, the young man was on his way to pick up his graduation toga when the accident happened. Rescuers found him lying on his car seat, pale and drenched in sweat, worried that he might not make it to his graduation ceremony scheduled the following day.
“Inabot po namin ‘yung estudyante, nakahiga sa kanyang car seat. Putlang-putla na po, pawisang-pawisan ‘yung bata, tapos nagsabi siya na ‘nay graduation ko pa naman bukas,” Barangay 173 Rescue member Gemma Sangalan said.
His mother immediately arrived at the scene after hearing the news. The student told her that the floor mat of the car got stuck on the accelerator, leaving him unable to step on the brake.
Fearing he might hit pedestrians or another vehicle, he decided to steer the car directly into a tree to avoid causing further harm. The impact left him with several injuries, including a fracture in his leg.
“Tinanong niya bakit, ano nangyari sa’yo? Sabi niya po umipit mama ‘yung mat sa pinaka selinyador. Kaya hindi na raw niya maiapak. Dire-diretso na po siya. Kaya instead na makabangga siya ng tao, eh binangga na lamang niya sa puno,” Sangalan added.
The victim was immediately brought to the nearest hospital for treatment, where relatives later assured that his condition had stabilized.
Barangay responders praised the young man’s presence of mind for choosing to protect others even while risking his own safety. They also reminded motorists to check their vehicles regularly, even for small details such as floor mats, as these can unexpectedly lead to dangerous situations on the road.
