Jollibee’s Viral Burger Promo Under Investigation Over Possible Irregularities, DTI Says
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is investigating Jollibee’s viral burger blowout over possible irregularities.
The agency is continuing its investigation into the recent Jollibee “Burger Blowout Promo” after questions were raised about its legitimacy. The controversy started when social media users noticed that the supposed raffle winners had unusual, almost AI-generated names, sparking doubts about the promo’s fairness.
According to DTI’s Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau Officer-in-Charge Atty. Regino Mallari Jr., past promotions from Jollibee went through proper validation and complied with regulations. However, the latest promo drew widespread attention and suspicion, prompting the agency to take a closer look.

DTI explained that the ongoing probe aims to verify the authenticity of the raffle entries, including checking the winners’ names, contact numbers, and addresses. This process ensures that the prizes were awarded fairly and that consumers were not misled.
Jollibee has already coordinated with DTI and voluntarily postponed the promo while conducting its own internal investigation. The move shows that the company is cooperating with authorities as they work to clear up the issue.
“While not preempting ‘yung ongoing investigation, kapag napatunayan ‘to, maaaring puwedeng administratibong penalties ang mga kompanya na nagko-conduct ng ganito,” the official said.
If proven that irregularities took place, the fast-food chain could face administrative penalties. Under the law, companies found guilty of deceptive practices may be fined between P500 and P300,000, depending on the gravity of the violation and the results of the investigation.
“Meron pong administratibong penalty from P500 to P300,000 kapag po after due notice and hearing ng ating imbestigasyon,” she added.
As of this writing, the case remains under review, and no final decision has been made. The DTI emphasized that proper due process will be observed before any sanctions are imposed.
