CCTV Installer Caught Stealing LPG Tank in Tondo

A CCTV installer was caught stealing an LPG tank in Barangay 210, Tondo, Manila, using the very camera he had installed.

On Thursday midnight, August 14, 2025, a man who had previously installed CCTV cameras in a home was caught on the same cameras stealing an LPG tank.

The video showed the man calmly reaching for a pan that was sitting on top of the LPG tank. He set the pan down on the floor, then lifted the tank and quickly left the house.

Homeowner Shiela Reyes said she recognized the thief immediately, as he was not only the one who installed their CCTV cameras, but also a familiar face in the neighborhood. The man even tried to keep his face out of view, but his identity was no secret to the family.

At the time of the theft, everyone in the house was asleep, and it was only in the morning that they discovered the incident through the CCTV recording.

The family immediately reported the theft to the barangay. Officials shared that the suspect was known locally for doing repair work such as carpentry and plumbing, often hired by residents for small jobs because of his low rates.

However, he had also been previously involved in petty crimes and was on the barangay’s drug watchlist.

The suspect was last seen around 8 a.m. on the same day, crossing over to a nearby barangay, and has not been spotted since. Authorities are now searching for him.

Barangay officials are reminding residents to be careful about who they allow into their homes, even if the person is familiar. They stressed the importance of staying alert and observing the behavior of those they trust, as familiarity does not always guarantee safety.
