9-Year-Old Boy in Iligan City Wakes from Coma After Alleged Beating by Four High School Students
A nine-year-old boy from Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, has regained consciousness from a coma after allegedly being beaten by four high school students.
According to the boy’s father, his son was still able to come home after the incident but complained of a severe headache the next day. On August 4, 2025, they rushed him to the hospital when his condition worsened.
Police investigations revealed that the boy was on his way home with a neighbor when four suspects allegedly waited for them. The neighbor managed to run away, so he did not witness what happened next to the young victim.

Earlier reports from barangay officials suggested that the incident might have started after the boy tried to break up a fight between two other children. This act, meant to stop the conflict, may have drawn the attention and anger of the suspects.
The boy’s sudden collapse and hospitalization deeply alarmed his family and community, as such violence against a child shocked many residents. Neighbors expressed concern about how young people can be involved in such brutal acts, especially toward someone much younger.
Police authorities said they will take the boy’s statement once he is fully stable to clarify the sequence of events and identify the full extent of the assault. While the investigation continues, the family remains focused on the boy’s recovery, grateful that he has regained consciousness after days of uncertainty.
The incident raised concerns about the need for better guidance among youth and stronger measures to ensure children’s safety.
As of this writing, everyone hopes that the young victim’s condition will continue to improve and that justice will be served for what happened to him.
