DOTr to Launch Student Beep Cards Starting September 2025

Student Beep Cards to be Launched by DOTr Starting Next Month

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is set to launch student beep cards beginning September 2025, aiming to make travel faster and more convenient for students.

The new white personalized beep cards are part of the directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to improve public transport accessibility for students. With the new system, students no longer need to queue just to avail themselves of the 50% fare discount when riding MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon explained that the move is meant to help students save time and avoid delays in getting to their classes. Each student beep card will be valid for one year, printed with the student’s name, and renewable every school year.

“Kabilin-bilinan ng Pangulo na dapat ang biyahe ng ating mga studyante ay mabilis at convenient para hindi sila nale-late sa klase. Starting September, hindi na sila mahihirapan,” Dizon said.

Starting next month, students can visit any train station, present their valid school ID, and have their beep card printed on the spot. The renewal process will follow the same steps at the start of every school year.

“Pupunta lang sila sa kahit anong station next month, ipapakita ang ID at ipi-print ang beep card right then and there. Ire-renew lang nila ‘yan every after school year,” he added.

Currently, white beep cards are already available for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), both of whom also receive an automatic 50% fare discount.

The printing process for white beep cards will also be made faster, they can be claimed immediately at ticket counters, unlike the previous five to seven days of processing.

The DOTr hopes that this initiative will not only make commuting easier but also encourage more students to use the train system for their daily travel. By cutting waiting times and streamlining the process, the program is expected to benefit thousands of students in Metro Manila who rely on public transportation to get to school every day.
