Sen. Camille Villar Files Resolution for Lepto Cases Probe
CAMILLE VILLAR – The newbie Senator filed a resolution seeking for a Senate probe on the rising leptospirosis cases in the Philippines.
The Philippines is one of the countries that are prone to tropical storms. Every year, at least seven (7) typhoons hit the country and flooding is a constant problem in several areas across the nation when storms hit the country.

Recently, one of the senators in the Senate, newbie lawmaker Camille Villar who was endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte during the 2025 Midterm Elections, filed a resolution seeking for a Senate investigation on the cases of leptospirosis in the Philippines.
Based on a report on Inquirer, Villar noted in her resolution the rising cases of leptospirosis and she wants a probe “in aid of legislation”. The daughter of former Senate President Manny Villar wants to investigate how the Department of Health (DOH) and other concerned agencies address the surge in the cases of leptospirosis in the country.

Furthermore, Sen. Camille Villar also want to know how the concerned agencies map out strategies to reduce deaths due to the said disease caused by the bacterium Leptospira. According to her, the rising figures calls for a broader public health concern.

“Leptospirosis disease is a serious public health problem, mainly affecting the productive age group and those living in flood-prone areas,” the newbie Senator said.
Based on the report, Villar said the Senate investigation aims to make sure that the means for prevention are really effective and there is a wider public awareness about the disease. She also seeks for a stronger coordination among the concerned agencies in dealing with the matter to prevent casualties.
In the Senate, Sen. Camille Villar joined her brother, Sen. Mark Villar. The newbie lawmaker heads the Senate Committee on Environment while her brother, a former secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), heads the Senate Committee on Public Works.

During the 2025 Midterm Elections, now-Sen. Camille Villar attempted to switch positions with her mother, former Sen. Cynthia Villar, who ran in the Las Piñas district congressional race but she lost. Despite her defeat, former Sen. Cynthia Villar claimed that she will continue serve Las Piñas despite being “not lucky in elections”.
