Sara Duterte Sees Budget Cuts in Proposed P903-Million Fund for OVP Citing Marcos Admin

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Budget Proposal of OVP for 2026

SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President is expecting budget cuts in the proposed P903-million fund for the OVP in 2026 citing the Marcos administration.

The Office of the Vice President is one of the government offices that suffered a huge budget cut in the 2025 budget appropriations. Vice Pres. Duterte’s office got a P1.3 billion budget cut from its proposed budget of P2 billion for 2025. Meanwhile, she assured that her office will continue to operate despite it.

For 2026, during the 2025 Pasidungog event of her office, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she will not ask for a bigger budget for her office as she does not want the OVP staff allegedly humiliated during budget deliberations. She claimed they will ask for a P733 million budget which is close to the P700 million budget given to the OVP in 2025.

The House of Representatives reacted to her claim expressing their hope that the Vice President will recognize the chamber’s role in budget scrutiny. Recently, it was confirmed that the OVP is seeking for a P903-million budget for 2026.

However, according to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, she is not expecting budget cuts in the P903-million proposed fund of the OVP for 2026. Based on a report on GMA News, the Vice President cited the Marcos administration over her expectation.

Duterte previously claimed that she is not an ally of the admin, thus, she opted not to seek for a higher budget as she does not expect it to be granted. Recently, the Vice President stressed that the President and the House Speaker are still the same so she has the same expectation.

“Hindi naman nagbago ang administration eh. ‘Yan pa rin ang Pangulo natin, ‘yan pa rin ang Speaker of the House of Representatives natin. So wala na tayong ma-expect na ibibigay para sa Office of the Vice President,” the Vice President said.

Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that what the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved is the same budget proposal they submitted and placed in the National Expenditure Program (NEP).

“And of course ang expectation natin is bababaan ‘yan pagdating sa House of Representatives,” the Vice President said.

Previously, during his 4th State of the Nation Address, Pres. Bongbong Marcos claimed that he will not approve budget proposals that are not in line with the government plans.
