Robber Arrested for Robbing Shoe Store in San Mateo, Rizal
A 50-year-old robber was arrested after robbing a shoe store owner in Barangay Ampid Dos, San Mateo, Rizal.
On Monday evening (August 11, 2025), a 50-year-old man was arrested for robbling a shoe store in Rizal. The victim, a 55-year-old businesswoman, was closing up shop when the incident happened.
She noticed the man walking past her store around 8 p.m. and immediately felt something was off. He was wearing a jacket, a face covering that only showed his eyes, and a cap pulled low. Before she could step outside to seek help, the man went straight into the store and declared a robbery.

“Parang naghinala na po ako kasi close na close ‘yung katawan niya. Naka-jacket po siya, nakatakip ‘yung mukha nya. Mata lang ang nakalabas tapos naka-sumbrero siya,” the victim said.
The suspect demanded her bag, but when she said she didn’t have one, he pushed her further inside. Finding no bag, he grabbed her cellphone, which was charging nearby, and quickly fled.
In an attempt to avoid being recognized, the suspect removed some of his clothes as he ran. The victim immediately called out for help, and nearby residents responded. They chased the man, cornered him, and were able to recover the stolen phone.
According to San Mateo Police investigator Police Staff Sergeant Joey Mejares, the suspect admitted to the crime. He claimed desperation drove him to do it, citing poverty, lack of job opportunities, and his history of drug use and prior imprisonment as reasons people wouldn’t trust him with work.
“Yung nanakbo po, nahabol po ng taong-bayan, nasukol po. Nabawi rin po ‘yung kanyang ninakaw na cellphone,” Mejares said.
Police records show that the man has had multiple run-ins with the law for theft. Authorities stressed the need to detain him to prevent further trouble in the community.
The suspect is now in the custody of the San Mateo Police Custodial Facility and will face charges of robbery hold-up.
