Darryl Yap replied to a netizen who criticized his political satire content
Director Darryl Yap reacted to a netizen’s post defending Unkabogable Vice Ganda for his joke about former President Rodrigo Duterte.
To recall, Vice became a trending topic on social media because of his skit imitating the Jet 2 Holidays trend, but his version mentioned the current situation of PRRD.
This did not sit well with the DDS or Diehard Duterte Supporters. He received criticism, and a supporter even wanted him to be declared persona non grata in Davao City.
Duterte’s ally, Atty. Harry Roque also slammed the Kapamilya comedian-host and stressed that what he did was inappropriate.
However, many fans defended Vice Ganda, as well as his friend Kapuso comedienne Pokwang, who said that there was no need for netizens to drag Vice’s mother, Nanay Rosario, into this issue.
Duterte’s critics also defended the It’s Showtime host, including a Facebook page, The Filipino Patriot, which posted a collage photo of the political satire videos that Darryl Yap released during the 2022 election campaign.
Direk Daryl did a series focused on the character Len-len, which also featured Sen. Imee Marcos. The director is a known supporter of PRRD and is close to Sen. Imee.
The post, in which former Vice President Leni Robredo was taged, defended Vice’s joke. “For years, wala kayong narinig sa pamilyang Robredo at sa mga taga-suporta ni VP Leni noong siya ang ginawan ng biro at pinagtatawanan,” the caption of the post stated.
The netizen also pointed out that Direk Darryl did a series about the former Vice President back in 2022, but her camp remained silent, as well as the Kakampinks.
However, the netizen pointed out that now, with a single joke from Vice Ganda about the former President, his camp and his supporters made this a big issue.
“Kapag sa iba ginawa, okay lang sa inyo. Pero pag sa Tatay niyo, panay sigaw kayo,” the netizen pointed out.
Direk Darryl reposted this and answered the netizen’s remark about his political satire series. He debunked the statement that the other camp was silent about his political satire videos. “Tahimik daw sila, ambobobo nyo ngang nagAKO SI LENLEN at nagcancel ng kung anu-ano,” he said.
The director also stressed that those videos were made during the campaign period. “Panahon ng kampanya noong 2022, at lahat ng gagawin ng kahit na sino may karampatang reaksyon yan—ok lang kayo mangatwiran—pero talagang PAGMAMALINIS at PAGSISINUNGALING ANG NANANALAYTAY SA INYONG PINK BLOOD CELLS,” Direk Darryl Yap said.
