Matet de Leon revealed something about her mom
Actress Matet de Leon reacted to the assumption that her mother, National Artist and Superstar Nora Aunor, died poor.
Nora’s showbiz career spanned more than 45 years. With that longevity in the entertainment industry and projects she had done, it is expected that she was one of the wealthiest celebrities in the Philippines.
When Nora died on April 16, 2025, at the age of 71, the showbiz community mourned. Many celebrities paid tribute to her, and her fans shared their fondest memory they had with her.
In a recent interview on the YouTube channel of financial guru Chinkee Tan, Matet de Leon clarified one assumption of people about her mother.
“Alam mo, i- ano (klaro) natin sa mga tao total nandito naman na tayo, inaano nila ang mommy ko, kinakana nila ang hirap, purita nga ang nanay ko. Alam n’yo kung bakit?” Matet said about Nora Aunor, based on the article in Bandera.
She shared that her mom’s taping salary was paid before or after. When the salary came, Nora would make the staff fall in line, and she would give her salary to them. “Hindi ito (usaping) P300 ha, dalawang libo (o) isang libo (sabay muwestra ng pamimigay) pinapapila niya mga tao, cameraman lahat (staff),” she shared.
Aside from the members of the production staff, Matet shared that her mom would also call the kids watching her tapings and make them fall in line, and distribute her money to them.
“Ang thinking ng nanay ko, okay lang ako na wala pero sila meron,” Matet said. Chinkee Tan said that this generous gesture of the Superstar was not publicized.
Matet said that now, because of the interview, the public would know how her mother handled her salary.
The actress also stressed that people just judged her mother, that she was not able to buy properties or invest in something, but they had no idea about the late Superstar’s generosity.
Matet added that her mother would always prioritize other people or her friends before herself.
When asked about the properties of Nora, Matet said that her mother was just renting because they would come a time before that Nora would feel that she didn’t like the sala or a certain portion of the house, and she would just tell them to find a new house to rent.
“My mom, she was so generous to the point na wala ng natitira and kami namang mga anak hindi kami para pagsabihan siya na, ‘ma, baka naman puwedeng ganito ang gawin natin?’” Matet de Leon shared.
