Rico Blanco Writes Musical Score For Maris Racal’s ‘Sunshine’

Rico Blanco was part of Maris Racal’s movie

Singer-songwriter Rico Blanco did the musical scoring for the movie Sunshine, starring his ex-girlfriend Maris Racal.

Maris and Rico’s relationship surprised many showbiz fans. It was because many thought that it was unlikely for them to find love with each other because of their age gap.

The actress has been vocal about admiring the former Rivermaya band member. Even though it was not expected, many fans supported their relationship, as well as their friends in the entertainment industry.

However, in a press conference in July last year, Maris Racal confirmed her breakup with Rico Blanco. She was emotional while sharing this breakup news.

Even though they were no longer together, Maris still received support from Rico. The singer-songwriter was the one who scored her movie Sunshine, which gained international recognition.

Based on the article in Bandera, director Tonette Jadaone made a revelation about the movie through her post on X, formerly Twitter. “Rico Blanco’s first time to score a full-length film (clapping fingers emoji),” the filmmaker wrote.

This came after a netizen’s comment saying, “Nobody is talking about Rico Blanco’s musical score. Are Sunshine’s rhythmic gymnastic music original?”

Director Quark Henares was the one who answered the netizen. “I can answer this. Original but inspired (gymnast emoji),” the director said, and shared the official music video of the song “Elektrobank” by Chemical Brothers, which is about a female gymnast champion.

Rico replied to Direk Quark’s post. “Actually, more inspired by electronic music in general. hardly used pegs for sunshine. more of convos w @tonetjadaone re characters, intentions, goals. big idea was to add modernity and youth to the story,” the singer-songwriter said.

Rico Blanco also shared that he has “deep roots in the genre kraftwerk orbital reznor depeche ultravox etc.” He added that he loved the track, it was not on his radar before, as it was more of “90s Big Beat.” Rico also thanked Direk Quark.

The director showed appreciation for Rico and that he loved what he did with the musical scoring.
