Erwin Tulfo Wants Sara Duterte’s Trial To Proceed but Votes “Yes” To Archiving Impeachment Case

Sen. Erwin Tulfo In Favor of Archiving VP Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Case

ERWIN TULFO – The newbie Senator claimed he wants the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte to proceed but supported the motion to archive the impeachment case.

The senators discussed the Supreme Court ruling over the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte yesterday. During the session, Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Rodante Marcoleta moved for the dismissal of the impeachment case against Duterte.

Marcoleta cited the Supreme Court ruling and also claimed that when he was a member of the House of Representatives, he allegedly was not told about the ongoing impeachment raps as he was not an ally. Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto moved to table Marcoleta’s motion.

However, Sotto’s motion lost after getting only five (5) votes. Marcoleta agreed his motion to be changed from dismissing the impeachment case against the Vice President to archiving it.

Prior to the opening of the 20th Congress, several senators and incoming senators have aired their side on the controversial topic about the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. One of them is Sen. Erwin Tulfo.

Erwin Tulfo

Sen. Erwin Tulfo is one of the first-time senators in the 20th Congress. Previously, Tulfo expressed his belief that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte should proceed.

“Personally, why not? Kung the VP is not guilty then so be it, let’s dismiss the case…Pero kung the evidence will really ika nga, ididiin siya doon, then we don’t have a choice,” he expressed.

Thus, some people were surprised when Sen. Erwin Tulfo voted in favor of archiving the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Meanwhile, based on a post, the newbie Senator clarified that he still wants the Vice President to address the allegations against her in the trial.

“Sa totoo lang po, gusto ko siyang humarap sa paglilitis upang maipaliwanag ang mga issue, upang sumagot sa mga tanong ng taong bayan, at upang harapin ang pananagutan kung ito ay nararapat-dapat,” Tulfo said.

On the ruling of the Senate to archive the impeachment case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto could only say — “May God have mercy on your decision”.
