Pres. Bongbong Marcos Speaks on PH Debt Reaching P17.27-Trilliion
BONGBONG MARCOS – The President is confident to ‘slowly bring down’ the P17.27-trillion debt of the Philippines.
It is widely known among the Filipino people that the Philippines’ debt is taking an upward trend for decades now. Each administration has its own share of added debt to the existing liabilities of the country.

Previously, when Vice Pres. Sara Duterte raised a question about the P16 trillion national debt of the Philippines, Malacañang reminded the Vice President that the Duterte admin has the “highest debt”.
“Ang administrasyon ni dating Pangulong Duterte ang naitalang may pinakamataas na naging utang na umabot ng P12.79 trillion as of June 2022. At solong utang po ng administrasyong Duterte ay umaabot ng P6.84 trillion as of June 2022. At nagkaroon ng increase ng 115.1 percent sa pagkaka-utang,” Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro said.

Currently, halfway to the end of the term of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the PH debt has reached P17.27-trillion. Recently, in a podcast, the Chief Executive spoke his two cents on the liabilities of the country.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Bongbong Marcos expressed during a podcast interview his belief that the government can slowly bring down the national debt of P17.27-trillion. According to him, it is possible as long as the public funds are being utilized in the right way.
“Dahan-dahan mapapababa natin ‘yan... Basta’t ‘yung pera ng Pilipinas ay ginagamit sa tamang paraan,” he said.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos also cited an example in using the public funds right. According to him, the budget allotted for the construction of two classrooms must really be used in accomplishing the target.
“Hindi nakalagay doon dalawang classroom, ginawa lang isang classroom. Binulsa na ‘yung natira. O ‘yung mga ganoong klase,” he said.

Based on the report, Pres. Bongbong Marcos urges the people to not only look at the liabilities of the country but as well as the assets. According to him, the biggest asset of the country are the Filipino people.
‘”Pag tinitingnan lamang ‘yung utang, tinitingnan lang ‘yung liabilities. Eh tingnan niyo ‘yung asset. Nadadagdagan ‘yung asset natin. Nadadagdagan ‘yung training natin,” the President said.
During the Marcos SONA 2025, the Chief Executive made a lot of vows. One of which was that Pres. Bongbong Marcos said he will not sign budget proposals “misaligned” to the government plans.
