Russian Influencer Suffers Spine Injury Over Failed ‘Stiletto Challenge’ Attempt
A Russian social media influencer, Mariana Barutkina, suffered a serious spine injury after attempting a popular online trend known as the “stiletto challenge.”
The challenge, inspired by Nicki Minaj’s song High School, involves balancing in a seated pose with legs crossed while wearing high stiletto heels. It has become a viral trend on social media, with many attempting the risky pose for content.
Barutkina decided to take on the challenge just eight weeks after giving birth. In her version, she tried to balance on a baby food jar placed on a frying pan while wearing heels. Unfortunately, she lost her balance and fell, resulting in a painful injury.

Doctors later confirmed that she had suffered a compression flexion fracture in her spine, a type of break caused by a strong bend and pressure on the back. The injury left her in pain and needing medical attention immediately after what was supposed to be her first blog content shoot.
While some online users expressed concern and sympathy, others were quick to criticize her for doing such a risky stunt instead of focusing on caring for her newborn. In response, Barutkina explained that her baby was safe and being looked after by two nannies while she attempted the challenge.
“I decided to start a blog, my first content shoot and here I am leaving the doctor’s with a diagnosis.” she said.
Despite the backlash, the incident serves as a reminder of how far some people are willing to go for content and how easily things can go wrong. Barutkina is now recovering from the injury, but the experience has surely left a mark on her both physically and emotionally.
“Irony? Karma? Or just life, which always tests our strength at the most unexpected moment.” she added.
