Spox of OVP Defends Vice Pres. Sara Duterte amid Frequent Travels
OVP – The Office of the Vice President claimed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte remains to do her job despite her physical absence.
The Supreme Court favored the side of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in its recent ruling. The Supreme Court declared the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte as “unconstitutional” stating it did not follow the one-year rule in the Constitution.
Following the ruling of the Supreme Court, there are doubts and opposing opinions on whether or not the Senate will push through with the trial. Previously, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero announced that the senators will decide on the matter on August 6.
Today is the set date that the Senate is expected to decide on the fate of the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The senators have mixed reactions to the case and the decision of the Supreme Court.
Senators Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, Kiko Pangilinan, and Tito Sotto want the impeachment trial of Duterte to proceed. According to Sen. Risa Hontiveros, it is allegedly “premature” to decide over the dismissal of the trial without the evidence being presented.
Amid the expected Senate discussion of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial today, the OVP is mum on the whereabouts of the Vice President. Based on a report on GMA News, the office of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte assured that she remains to work for the office.
“Even if she’s not here, she’s still running the office. Kasi may tech naman kami. The instructions come from the VP herself,” OVP spox Atty. Ruth Castelo said.
According to Castelo, Duterte is allegedly the one who really checks the works of the office including the press releases and even those that are posted on social media. She claimed that the Vice President checks it if the figures are accurate.
Based on the report, Atty. Ruth Castelo further claimed that even if Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is not here physically, she does the work virtually. However, the OVP did not mention the whereabouts of Duterte now.
“So that’s how the Vice President is involved, like I said, she may not be here physically, hindi lang natin nakikita pero ‘yung trabaho na kailangan niya nun for the office is still being done. Ano lang, minsan virtual, minsan ghost,” Castelo said.
Ahead of the discussion in the Senate, Sen. Bato dela Rosa claimed that there is nothing more supreme than the Supreme Court except for God. He believes that there is no need for debate.
