Statement of House Speaker Martin Romualdez on SSS Pension Increase

House Speaker Martin Romualdez and the lower chamber commended the Marcos administration over the 3-year increase in the pension of the Social Security System members.

Ahead of the 4th State of the Nation Address of President Bongbong Marcos, the Senate and the House of Representatives elected the leaders of their chambers. In the Senate, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero won the Senate presidency over Senator Tito Sotto with 19-5 voting. In the House of Representatives, Speaker Martin Romualdez managed to remain in the House speakership with a strong solid vote.

Escudero and Romualdez sat beside Marcos Jr. during the SONA 2025. In the speech he delivered, the President who is currently halfway in his term mentioned the accomplishments of his administration as well as the projects it eye to finish within the last three (3) years of his term.

Recently, shortly after the 20th Congress started, the Social Security System which has millions of pensioners announced a good news with regards to the SSS pension. The social insurance giant said there will be a 3-year increase in the monthly pension received by the regular, disability, and survivorship pensioners.

According to the Social Security System, regular and disability pensioners will get a 10% increase every year starting September 2025 while the survivorship pensioners will get 5% increase every year for three (3) years.

The 3-year continuous increase on the SSS pension will bring the minimum retirement pension from P2,200 to P2,928.20. With regards to the average disability pension, it will be from P4,963.70 to P6,606.68. The survivorship pensioners will receive at least P2,315.00 from P2,000.00 by the end of the three-year increase.

Recently, House Speaker Martin Romualdez commended the Marcos administration over the 3-year increase in the SSS pension. Based on a report on PhilStar, he and the members of the House welcome the development although he believes that it is allegedly “long overdue”.

“This decision reflects President Marcos’ vision for a social insurance system that genuinely works for the people, especially our elderly who deserve dignity and support after years of contributing to our nation’s economy,” House Speaker Martin Romualdez said.

Reportedly, the SSS pension hike will be implemented without an increase on the monthly contributions of the other members. Based on the report, the SSS pension increase will benefit around 3.8 million pensioners.

Aside from the pension which is under the Retirement Benefits for the SSS members, the social insurance giant also got loan offers which include the SSS Calamity Loan.
