School in La Union Returns to Class Despite Even Area Is Still Without Electricity
LA UNION – A school in La Union returned to class last Tuesday (July 29, 2025), despite the power outage in the area.
Students at Pantar Sur Elementary School in Barangay Pantar Sur, Balaoan, La Union resumes classes, even though the area is still without electricity.
According to Teacher Jeth, one of the school’s dedicated teachers, he and his colleagues immediately began cleaning classrooms and school grounds as soon as they got back on campus.

Despite the dark and humid classrooms, they were determined to push through with classes, which officially started on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Without electricity, teaching has been a challenge. To help his Grade 4 class, Teacher Jeth brought his own 900-watt generator just to power up teaching devices like projectors and fans. But due to bad weather, only 10 of his 23 students were able to attend class that day.
By Thursday morning, July 31, student attendance improved. Around 60% of students from all grade levels showed up, higher than the 40% attendance recorded on Tuesday. All classes, from Kindergarten to Grade 6, are held face-to-face.

However, because of the power outage and a lack of classrooms, the school had to make adjustments. Grade 6 students were moved to the principal’s office, while Grade 5 students are now holding classes in the school pavilion.
Their original classrooms were too dark, as they are surrounded by tall trees that block natural light.
According to PAGASA, the continuous rains in La Union are caused by the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat. Even with these challenges, the teachers remain committed to giving their students a proper education, showing resilience and creativity in difficult times.
