President Marcos Wants Investigation on Faulty Flood Control Projects to Begin Soon

President Marcos wants to launch an investigation on substandard flood control projects and hold those accountable.

The government is set to launch an investigation into substandard flood control projects following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to hold those responsible accountable. According to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the goal is to expose officials who may have conspired with contractors to profit from poorly executed projects.

The investigation will focus on identifying the extent of those involved and gathering enough evidence to file proper cases. While no specific deadline was given to Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan, the Palace emphasized the importance of finding out who should be held liable.

Bersamin explained that the President is not blind to the situation, especially after seeing widespread flooding across the country despite millions of pesos spent on flood control systems.

The results of these projects have been questioned after many communities remained submerged during heavy rains.

Secretary Bonoan shared that they are working on submitting a list of all flood control projects from the past three years.

He mentioned that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) already has an active monitoring system in place and that they only need to compile and download the data before submitting it to Malacañang.

The DPWH is also waiting for additional information from its field offices to confirm the current status of each project. Once complete, this data will be made public so the people can see which officials may have gained financially from the flawed projects.

When asked about his reaction to the President’s criticism during the SONA, Bonoan did not give a direct answer. However, the DPWH is now under pressure to ensure transparency and accountability in the face of serious concerns raised by the public and the President himself.
