2 Women Rescued After Landslide Hits 4 Homes in Baguio City

Two women were rescued after being trapped under thick mud during a landslide that hit their neighborhood in Baguio City.

On early Friday (July 25, 2025), a landslide hits Purok 2, Outlook Drive in Baguio City, following hours of heavy rainfall overnight. Water gushed into residential areas, catching many families off guard.

One of the affected houses was buried entirely under mud, forcing rescue teams to act quickly. Local authorities, together with volunteers, worked hand in hand to pull out the two women who had been trapped inside. Thankfully, both of them were safely rescued.

Residents living nearby were also evacuated as a safety precaution and are now staying at temporary shelters. Emergency teams remain on alert in case further evacuations are needed.

A large tree also fell and blocked the road in the same area, damaging nearby power lines. A van was hit by falling branches, breaking its windshield, but no injuries were reported from that incident.

The Baguio City local government, led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, immediately held an emergency meeting to assess the situation. Based on their initial report, the city recorded 34 incidents of landslides, soil erosion, and rockfalls, along with 30 fallen trees.

A total of 17 houses were damaged, two of which were completely destroyed. As the city continues to experience heavy rains and remains under Signal No. 3, authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of all residents.

“Relatively affected tayo dito. We are now under signal number 3, that could translate to about 80, 81 or 82 individuals. We have about 17 houses na damaged. Actually out of the 17, dalawa doon ang totally damaged,” Magalong said.

As of this writing, everyone is encouraged to remain alert and stay in safe areas.
