Statement of Malacañang on VP Sara Duterte’s Recent Criticisms vs. Marcos Admin

Malacañang reacted to the criticisms of Vice President Sara Duterte against the Marcos administration about addressing the flood problems in the Philippines.

Aside from criticizing the call of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for the floodwater to be collected in preparation of the dry season, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that the government allegedly has no project to address the problem about flooding in the country.

Vice Pres. Duterte made her remarks during an interview in The Hague, Netherlands. She is currently away from the country for visitations to her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) since March.

“Wala talagang mga proyekto na nag-aadress sa baha. Ibig sabihin inaantay na lang nating dumating ‘yung bagyo at ‘yung baha at maging biktima na naman tayo ulit ng baha taon-taon,” she said.

Malacañang reacted to the remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, Palace press officer undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stressed that the Vice President will really not see the preparations of the Marcos admin for Typhoon Crising as she is not in the country.

“Unang-una po hindi naman po talaga malalaman marahil ni Bise President kung ano po ang pagpe-preprare ng administrasyon patungkol po dito sa Bagyong Crising dahil wala po siya sa bansa at nagbabakasyon siya sa The Hague,” Castro said.

According to the Malacañang official, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte might be also unaware about the meetings held before Pres. Bongbong Marcos flew to the United States. Castro stressed that Duterte is not in the country to judge the work of the President, the administration, and the concerned agencies.

Atty. Claire Castro further expressed that the accomplishments of the different concerned agencies have already been reported. Among these were the free transport offered by the Philippine Coast Guard as well as the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Based on the report, the Malacañang official claimed that it allegedly cannot be avoided for Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to criticize the government as she is not in the country.

“Hindi po maiiwasan ni Bise President na mamintas dahil wala po siya sa Pilipinas at hindi po niya nakikita kung ano ang ginagawa ng gobyerno para sa taumbayan,” Castro said.

Previously, Pres. Bongbong Marcos has ordered the immediate suspension of all the preparations related to his upcoming SONA (State of the Nation Address). His directive came amid the country grappling against the impact of the Habagat.
