Recently, Donn Eclevia Sorrosa Roba, a Facebook user, shared the unexpected move her 7-year-old son made after being grounded from using his cellphone. The post elicited comments from internet users.
The mother from Ibajay, Aklan said that her son ‘King’, had been spending more time glued to his gadget than on his studies. Worried, his parents decided to take action by confiscating his phone and limiting his screen time from Monday to Friday. It was a tough call, but they felt it was needed for him to refocus.
However, instead of sulking or throwing a tantrum, King responded in a mature and thoughtful way. He made a handwritten checklist, written entirely in English, listing good habits he promised to follow.
The boy’s list included tasks like speaking gently, eating quickly, waking up early, brushing his teeth, finishing assignments before playing, and helping with chores. He even added reminders like not fighting with his older brother and taking care of a younger sibling named Adelle.
King also added a cute note to himself: “Congratulations! You’re not grounded anymore, self.” His gesture moved his parents and touched many online users.
As of this writing, four tasks have been checked off, and King has a few more days to complete the rest before the week ends. His parents believe this experience is helping him understand discipline, responsibility, and the importance of balance at a young age.
