Floodwaters Swept House in Cauayan, Negros Occidental
A house in Cauayan, Negros Occidental was swept away by strong floodwaters during continuous heavy rain.
On Wednesday evening (July 17, 2025), a family in Barangay Caliling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental lost their home after it was swept away by flood.
Around 9:30 PM, a heavy downpour started in Purok 2, causing the water to rise quickly and forcefully to sweep the house away.

According to Barangay Kagawad Erlinda Doremon, the house belonged to Roanne Macahilas. When the water started rising fast, the family had no choice but to leave everything behind, including appliances like their refrigerator.
Their main concern was to keep their two young children, who are both elementary students safe. It wasn’t the first time flooding hit the area. In a previous incident, the house of Roanne’s mother was also carried by floodwaters but got stuck in power lines on the highway.
Unfortunately, in this case, no obstacles stopped Roanne’s house, it was completely washed across the road.

Residents say the area can be dangerous during heavy rains, although it stays peaceful when the weather is good. The affected family usually sells food along the side of the highway but is now temporarily staying at the Barangay Hall for shelter.
According to day care workers, about 48 families or 133 individuals from Purok 1 and 2 have evacuated. Even the Barangay Captain’s house was not spared, with floodwaters reaching as high as the windows.

Barangay officials believe the large volume of water rushing from the upland area made the flooding worse. For now, evacuees are not allowed to return home until the flood fully subsides to ensure everyone’s safety.
