So what exactly do these red lines mean?

The trend originated from the new dystopian K-Drama S Line, where these so-called “S-Lines” represent invisible connections that tie individuals to their sexual partners. In the storyline, only one girl can see these lines—until a special pair of glasses allows others to see them too. As these lines are revealed across society, chaos ensues, forcing the protagonist and a team of detectives to confront the situation and uncover the source of the glasses.

“The main theme that audiences should take away is how human society would collapse when the boundaries are stepped on,” director Ahn Joo Young said in an interview with Deadline.

“At its core, this is a story about people. It centers on how desires shift once someone starts seeing the S-Line,” she added in a recent press conference, according to Allkpop.

The drama, based on a Webtoon by NOMABI, premiered on July 11 and has since gained attention for its bold and unconventional take on intimacy and privacy. Featuring actors Lee Soo Hyuk, Lee Da Hee, and Arin, S Line even made its mark internationally by winning Best Music at the prestigious Canneseries competition.

Though not available on platforms like Netflix, Disney+, or Viu, viewers can catch S Line on the Korean streaming service Wavve.
