Starving Woman Rescued from Drainage Canal in GenSan While Searching for Food

A 23-year-old starving woman from Cotabato Province was rescued from a drainage canal in General Santos City while searching for food.

Previously, a woman named Rose was spotted crawling out of a sewer. The woman went viral online and received financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Recently, a tricycle driver noticed a hand reaching out from a small opening in the concrete cover of the canal. He immediately alerted the authorities after hearing the woman crying and asking for help.

The responders from Barangay Bula, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and the local police quickly arrived at the scene. The rescuers carefully removed the heavy concrete cover to access the canal.

At first, they thought it was a child trapped inside. The woman was struggling to breathe inside the drainage, prompting two barangay personnel to enter the sewer to help her out. After receiving first aid, she was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

Earlier, the woman had taken a swim in the sea. Afterward, she went into a nearby canal, hoping to find something to eat, and crawled through the canal for about 300 meters before reaching the area where she was eventually found, according to the CDRRMO’s investigation.

Fortunately, the woman is now in stable condition and did not suffer any injuries despite the risky situation. Authorities have not found any signs of foul play, and they are continuing to look into the incident.

Many netizens praised the quick action of the tricycle driver and rescue teams who helped save her.
