Alleged Helmet Thief Confronted by Residents in Bacolod City
THEFT INCIDENT – An alleged helmet thief was caught and confronted for stealing a helmet at Bacolod City College.
Theft is when a person takes something that doesn’t belong to them, without asking or getting permission, and plans to keep it or use it for themselves. It’s a dishonest act, and most of the time, it’s done quietly so the owner doesn’t notice right away.
People who commit theft usually know that what they’re doing is wrong, but they still do it, often thinking they won’t get caught.

On Tuesday afternoon (July 15, 2025), the suspect was caught and confronted by concerned citizens after being seen stealing a helmet at Bacolod City College in Barangay Taculing.
The victim was a college student from the school and a resident of Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia. The suspect, known only by the alias “Herman,” is a 47-year-old man from Barangay Mansilingan.
According to Police Captain Rosalindo Pugoy Jr., the station commander of Police Station 7, the suspect was seen cutting the helmet’s strap from a parked motorcycle using a cutter. He then quickly escaped the scene, thinking no one had noticed.
However, the victim’s older sibling happened to be nearby and saw the incident unfold. Without hesitation, he chased after the suspect. Some nearby citizens also joined in and managed to stop and confront Herman.
It wasn’t the first time the suspect had been involved in such an incident. Initial police records showed that he had also been linked to a similar helmet theft at a hospital within the same barangay.
The suspect is now in custody at Police Station 7 while proper legal action is being prepared.
The incident serves as a reminder to always secure personal belongings, especially in public places. It also shows the importance of community vigilance, as quick action from alert citizens helped prevent another theft and brought the suspect to the authorities.
