As the search for the missing sabungeros case started, authorities have recovered this.
MISSING SABUNGEROS CASE – The authorities are yet to verify if the bones inside a sack found in Taal Lake are human bones.
It has been years already, and the missing sabungeros are still not found. However, the case was revived and became a sensation after one of the accused people stepped forward as a whistleblower.
Alyas Totoy revealed that the sabungeros were dumped in Taal Lake. There were over a hundred who met this ill fate, and all of them were accordingly dead already.
Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla said that technical divers are eyed to look for them on the lake bed. The country has already asked for technical help from Japan, and several local agencies also pledged their support by offering their technical expertise.
The search has already started, and recently, the authorities have recovered a sack believed to have bones inside it during the retrieval operation. Police Col. Geovanny Emerick Sibalo, provincial director of the Batangas police, told ABS-CBN News that it was recovered about 10 meters from the shoreline.
They are yet to confirm if the bones are human bones.
According to the whistleblower, the sabungeros were executed and dumped into the lake after they were caught cheating in cockfight games. Businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang is the mastermind behind the mysterious disappearances, as alleged by Totoy, and actress Gretchen Barretto was also tied to the case.
Gretchen Barretto was considered a suspect after the witness identified her as among the alpha members and those who voted to have the sabungeros killed.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said that the bones and other human remains may still be recovered from the lake if the claims are true.
