Migz Zubiri Says Some Senators May Not Like Tito Sotto for Senate President as he’s “Too Strict”
TITO SOTTO – The former Senate President gave his side on the “too strict” remarks of some of his colleagues in the Senate about him.
With the opening of the 20th Congress, there are at least two (2) names involved in the presidential race in the Senate. Both incoming Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III and Senate Pres. Francis “Chiz” Escudero expressed their openness to take the highest position in the chamber.

Sotto is one of the winning senatorial bets of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago backed by the Marcos administration. He is also a former Senate President who led the chamber in the 18th Congress.
Previously, immediately after his senatorial win, incoming Sen. Tito Sotto claimed that there are talks convincing him to take the Senate presidency in the 20th Congress. According to the veteran Senator, he is willing to be the chamber’s president again if he has the numbers.

Sen. Migz Zubiri previously announced his support for incoming Sen. Tito Sotto for the Senate presidency. He also admitted that even if Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero is believed to have the numbers that can retain him in his position, he hopes for a new leader in the upper chamber who will steer it amid the rough situations.

According to Zubiri, he, Sen. Loren Legarda, and incoming Sen. Ping Lacson will vote for Sotto in the race for the Senate presidency. However, recently, he also admitted that some of their colleagues in the Senate may not like the former Senate President because he is “too strict”.

Incoming Sen. Tito Sotto reacted to the “too strict” remarks against him. Based on a report on PhilStar, the former Senate President admitted that he is really strict citing that he learned from the “true statesmen”. He has no problem with it if such behavior disqualifies him from the race for the Senate presidency.
“Masyadong strikto? Guilty as charged. I was brought up by the true statesmen of the 8th and 9th Congress where decency and following rules and procedures abound. If that disqualifies me from the Senate leadership, then so be it,” he said.
Recently, incoming Sen. Tito Sotto revealed the members of the “conscience bloc” which he will be part of in the 20th Congress. According to him, their intention is to ensure that the Senate follows the rules and proceedings mandated by the Constitution.
