Drunk Construction Worker in Quezon City Allegedly Assaults Grade 12 Student

A Grade 12 student was allegedly assaulted by a drunk construction worker in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City.

On Saturday (July 5, 2025), a 17-year-old Grade 12 student had just bought materials for a school project and was on her way home when the suspect began following her. CCTV footage showed the man approaching and putting his arm around the girl before threatening her with a knife.

According to the initial police report, the female student was forced to stay quiet as the suspect led her to a dark area within the neighborhood, where the assault took place.

After the incident, the suspect reportedly demanded money from the victim. She handed over P66, but when he asked for more, he brought her to a nearby convenience store to withdraw cash. It was there that the student saw a chance to call for help.

Gilbert Caducano said.

The victim managed to alert bystanders and police officers on patrol, who quickly responded and arrested the suspect on the spot.

dun po nakahingi ng tulong ‘yung ating biktima and then habang humihingi siya ng tulong sakto dumating naman po ‘yung nagpapatrolya nating mga pulis kaya dun na po naaresto ‘yung suspek,” he added.

According to the investigation, the suspect had been drinking before the crime. The victim also confirmed smelling alcohol on him during the incident. Authorities later found out that the suspect was new to the area and had only started working as a construction worker a few weeks ago.

The suspect admitted to the crime and expressed regret, blaming his actions on alcohol. Meanwhile, the victim is receiving counseling with support from the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) in Quezon City.

Police are once again reminding parents and guardians to avoid letting minors go out alone at night, especially in areas that are poorly lit or quiet, to help prevent such incidents. The suspect has been arrested and is now facing charges related to the incident.
