Farmer in Benguet Frustrated After Losing 400 Kilos of Carrots to Theft Before Harvest
A farmer in Barangay Calamagan, Buguias, Benguet loses around 400 kilos of carrots to theft just as they were ready to be harvested.
The farmer had carefully planted and tended the crops for months, hoping for a good harvest. However, on the morning of March 22, 2026, he was shocked to find that most of his carrots had already been pulled out from the ground.
He expressed his frustration after seeing the empty patches in his field. Based on initial findings, the theft likely happened between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. during the early hours of the morning. The timing made it easier for the suspects to carry out the act without being noticed.

CCTV footage from the area showed a man standing near the roadside close to the farm. He is believed to have acted as a lookout while others carried out the harvesting. Authorities suspect that more than one person was involved, given the large amount of carrots that were taken.
Residents in the area expressed concern over the incident, noting that this was the first time thieves had gone as far as harvesting crops themselves. It has raised worries among other farmers who depend on their produce for their livelihood.

The incident has already been reported to the barangay, and efforts are being made to identify those responsible.
The theft emphasizes the struggles faced by farmers, who work hard under difficult conditions only to face unexpected problems like theft.
