Sara Duterte Accused Karen Davila Of Spreading Fake News

VP Sara Duterte condemned Karen Davila for this statement

The office of Vice President Sara Duterte released a statement accusing journalist Karen Davila of spreading fake news.

Karen is known for discussing hot topics in her news program on ABS-CBN News Channel titled Headstart. She would interview political personalities and talk about certain issues in society and government.

However, with her strong personality and fiery statements, some personalities and their supporters would fire back at her for certain reasons.

In a statement released by the Office of the Vice President on July 2, Karen Davila was the subject and what she shared in her program on June 30, 2025, in which she interviewed former Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) Commissioner Atty. Ruben Carranza.

The statement under the office of VP Sara Duterte pointed out that the Kapamilya journalist had made a false statement.

This was the position that OVP cited: “One thing sources say—if she wins, she will bring back the PCGG and once again, ‘di ba, prosecute the Marcoses, (and) get back the ill-gotten wealth.” The Vice President called this statement a “BLATANT FALSEHOOD” and an “ABSOLUTE LIE.”

OVP said that what Karen stated on her program was “entirely fabricated” and that it had no basis. It was said that VP Sara has never made such a statement.

The statement also stressed that the Vice President did not express any intent or “issued any policy direction remotely similar to what Ms. Davila irresponsibly and recklessly attributed to unnamed ‘sources.'”

OVP said that Karen is engaging in reckless misinformation under the guise of journalism when she would “spread” baseless claims and citing anonymous sources.

Citing anonymous individuals without any verifiable basis is not journalism, but a gossip masquerading as news,” it stated.

The OVP also cited what was stated in The Code of Ethics of the Philippine Press Institute (PPI). This is about a reminder to journalists that they should serve the truth as their paramount responsibility, and that unverified reports of stories, or rumors, should not be published.

We call on Ms. Davila and her network to exercise greater journalistic responsibility,” the office of Vice President Sara Duterte stressed, adding that the journalist should refrain from “airing unverified claims that mislead the public and tarnish reputations.”

The OVP reserves all rights to pursue appropriate remedies to protect the integrity and credibility of the Vice President,” it added.
