Businessman Atong Ang is being pointed to as the mastermind in the missing sabungeros case, and here’s what he said.
The cockfighting enthusiasts went missing four years ago, and years after the disappearance, a whistleblower stepped forward with details about the case. In the recent reports, Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, the whistleblower who identified himself as “Totoy” previously.
He named Eric Dela Rosa and Celso Salazar as co-conspirators, saying, “Sila ang mastermind sa mga nawawalang sabungero.”
Patidongan added, “Si Mr. Atong Ang siya ang chairman ng pitmaster, siya ang pinaka mastermind at siya ang nag uutos na iligpit ang mga ‘yan.”
Shortly after, Ang broke his silence about the accusations and insisted that the claims were “entirely false, baseless, and malicious.” According to his statement, the whistleblowers only “conspired to commit attempted robbery with violence and intimidation, grave threat, grave coercion, incriminating against innocent persons and slander” against Ang, and their claims have tarnished his dignity and reputation.
Ang will file charges against the whistleblowers, and these charges include robbery, grave threats, grave coercions, slander, at incriminating innocent people. During a press conference, he faced the media and revealed what made him pursue legal actions immediately.
“Masyado na kaming kawawa kaya kailangan ko nang lumabas. Tingnan ninyo lahat ng sinasabi niya [Patidongan], may mga pulitiko, may mga artista pa, kung anu-ano. Pero walang kriminal sa amin. Yun lang ang masasabi ko diyan,” he said.
Regarding the Php 300 million amount he was offering to the whistleblower as per the latter’s claims, he said, “Si Atty. Carol Cruz, siya ang gumawa. Siya ang magpaliwanag kung papaano nangyari yon. Yung sinasabi nila na recantation yata ang tawag dun.”
He pleaded with the people to look through them deeply. According to him, he is just into gaming and, as they say, he is just a loverboy.
