Pinoy Passenger Expresses Frustration After Being Robbed While on an International Flight
A Pinoy passenger has expressed his frustration after being robbed while on board an international flight.
Recently, Enrique M. Soriano, a Facebook user, shared his experience after being robbed while on board an international flight. The incident happened mid-air, and authorities suspect it may be connected to a group involved in inflight theft.
Soriano shared what happened to him while flying from Manama to Istanbul. According to his story, he was fast asleep during the flight when someone secretly opened his carry-on bag stored in the overhead compartment.

Inside the bag was a travel pouch that held different currencies from his recent trips all of which were stolen. After the incident, a flight attendant informed him that another passenger, seated behind him, had been seen going through his bag. That passenger, believed to be a Chinese national, was later identified as the suspect.
Enrique didn’t let the issue pass. Upon arriving in Istanbul, he reported the theft and followed up with the authorities. Thanks to his persistence, part of the stolen money was recovered, and the suspect was eventually deported.
It wasn’t the first time such an incident was reported. Authorities now believe a syndicate might be behind a series of thefts happening during flights. These crimes are often done quietly, while passengers are asleep or distracted.
Keeping valuables close, locking bags, and staying alert can help prevent similar experiences. For Soriano, speaking out about what happened is his way of reminding others to stay cautious when flying.

“I WAS ROBBED MID-FLIGHT.
Yes-while I was 38,000 feet in the air, asleep (BC Seat 2 D) on a red-eye from Manama to Istanbul early last week, someone unzipped my carry-on in the overhead bin and stole everything inside my travel pouch.
Currencies from recent trips were gone. The shocking part? A flight attendant later informed me that the passenger behind me was seen rummaging through my bag. A Chinese national (Seat 3D)!
This wasn’t random—it’s part of a syndicate’s calculated modus. I relentlessly pursued the case in Istanbul. Otherwise it would just become another statistic. Some money was recovered. The suspect was deported…
The skies are not always safe—but we can travel smarter. I’ve written about this harrowing experience to warn fellow travelers. It will see print this week.”
