SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that the Marcos administration allegedly wants her eliminated as she is the “frontrunner in the 2028 presidential race”.

It is no secret to the Filipino people that there is a deepening rift between Pres. Marcos and Vice Pres. Duterte. It became visible after the Vice President left the Marcos Cabinet in June 2024 citing both personal and work reasons.

The rift between the Vice President and the Chief Executive was even triggered by her impeachment case and the arrest and the transfer of custody of her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Despite the claims of Malacañang and Pres. Bongbong Marcos that he does not engage with the impeachment process of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the Vice President and her camp believe that the Marcos administration allegedly wants her out.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte spoke to Russian media and claimed that she is allegedly the “frontrunner in the presidential race in 2028”. According to her, it is shown by the survey.

Based on a report on GMA News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claims that Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly wants he or his family to stay in power so the administration wants her as the frontrunner eliminated.

“It’s all about the refusal or the intent of President Marcos. It is the intent of President Marcos not to step down. He wants to perpetuate himself or his family in power. It is clear from the moves of his administration against political opponents,” the Vice President said.

Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that the Marcos administration is allegedly threatened by her popularity. According to her, the government thought that removing former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte will weaken her because they are ‘one brand, one family’.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos, in one of his recent podcast interview, claimed that he has no role in the impeachment process of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. However, Duterte does not believe Marcos Jr.’s claim over the impeachment process citing his “conflicting statements”.

The Senate has convened as an impeachment court but the senator judges rules to return the Articles of Impeachment against Vice Pres. Duterte to the House of Representatives. Eighteen (18) senator judges voted in support of the motion amid the questions over the constitutionality of the impeachment case.
