Man Loses P80K Playing Online Scatter Game

A man expresses his frustration after losing around P80,000 for playing the popular online game known as ‘scatter’.

A man using the name “John” shared his tough experience after losing a large amount of money to an online gambling game. In less than a year, he admitted to spending almost P100,000 on the game, while winning only around P20,000 in total from three small wins.

“Kahit hindi naman gaano malaki ang naitataya talaga, mas malaki pa rin talaga ‘yung talo,” he said.

John shared that his journey into playing scatter games began around September 2024. It all started when he came across catchy ads while using e-wallet apps like GCash. With just one quick tap, he found himself inside the game. Out of curiosity, he gave it a try. It didn’t feel risky at first, just a few small bets here and there.

But as days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, those small bets quietly stacked up. Each game didn’t cost much, which made it easy to keep playing without much thought. Before he knew it, the habit had become part of his daily routine. It wasn’t until he checked his spending that he realized he had already lost around P80,000.

“To me looking it from a gaming perspective, the worst is the scatter. I’m not talking about the game but the effects of it… It’s unregulated. It causes addiction, gambling addiction and lot of scatter games are not registered,” Robles said.

Government agencies have started to raise concerns about scatter games. The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has warned the public about the dangers of unregulated online games, especially scatter, which can be highly addictive. Many of these games are not properly registered, making them riskier for players.

To help protect the public, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) recently launched a website where people can check if an online gaming operator is legal and registered.
