IRAN VS ISRAEL – Overseas Filipino Workers in Qatar share their experience when Iran launched missile attacks at a US military base in Qatar.

On Monday, President Donald Trump announced that Iran and Israel agreed to a staggered ceasefire. As agreed, it is a total ceasefire between the two conflicted countries that escalated into a full-blown war.

However, there is no confirmation yet coming from either of the Middle Eastern adversaries.

Over the weekend, the United States launched unprecedented strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, which prompted a retaliatory attack on an American base in Qatar. To recall, the adversaries have been exchanging missile fire after Israel did surprise “preemptive” strikes against Iran on June 13 that targeted nuclear and military sites.

The ceasefire announcement came after Iran launched missiles targeting Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military facility in the Middle East.

“Nakakapangilabot!” said Filipinos in Qatar regarding the attacks. There were explosions above, but they could be strongly felt down below. In a report from ABS-CBN, a security named Jeg working near Al Udeid Air Base shared he was on duty when the launch happened, and to him, it felt like there was war above.

“Parang may giyera sa taas. First time namin na ma-encounter tapos close encounter pa kasi malapit kami sa US military base. Iba po ‘yung pakiramdam, ‘yung impact ng pagsabog talagang ramdam. Wala kaming ka idea-idea. ‘Yung impact parang nararamdaman sa katawan kahit nasa langit pa sila at pumuputok,” he said.

The close encounter was accordingly “nakakapangilabot.”

For Wilma, a Filipino doctor in Qatar, they heard about the attack through social media, and it felt like watching a “battleship up in the sky.”

What happened sparked panic-buying among the people. They stocked up on food and water, and on Wednesday, the Qatari government suspended classes.
